As discussed in our ECOC 2026 Show Report, some datacom optical module vendors are shifting towards more silicon photonics (SiPho) and CW lasers for FR optics in lieu of traditional EMLs. Cignal AI has analyzed the impact of this change and updated our Optical Front End forecast, the section of our Optical Component Report that tracks EML, SiPho, VCSEL, and TFLN share of the Datacom transceiver market. As a result, Cignal AI now forecasts SiPho will account for 60% of the datacom optical front end market in 2030, up from 55% in our prior forecast, at the expense of EMLs.
