Cignal AI was excited to participate in the initial optical-focused NANOG breakout session on February 13-15, 2023, in Atlanta. While most of the discussion focused on higher layers of the OSI stack, optics connect everything together, and there was strong interest among a subset of attendees about what’s happening with 400ZR.
Scott Wilkinson presented a talk titled “400ZR: Revolutionizing Networking” as part of the breakout session alongside talks on 400ZR experience, reuse of optical margin, and management of coherent optics in routers.
NANOG offers a good opportunity to connect not only with the largest operators who typically drive the narrative in optical networking but also with the many smaller datacenter and network operators for whom 100GbE is still a very fast rate. As with most in-person conferences, some of the best information comes from the impromptu hallway meetings and lunch conversations.
