One notable takeaway from this past June’s Optical Fiber Conference (OFC) was that AT&T disclosed it deployed OpenROADM-based networks across a dozen US metros nearly 5 years after the project’s inception.

This move represents a small fraction of CapEx for an operator the size of AT&T, but it’s a notable step forward for a project that many wondered would ever become a reality. AT&T plans to expand deployments to additional regions over the next year.
