3Q22 Transport Hardware & Markets Report

Summary

  • Worldwide: The worldwide optical market declined by -4% due to continuing supply chain constraints and weakness in Europe and Japan. The worldwide packet market grew by 3%. Currency effects continue to distort dollar-denominated results. Supply chains are improving but remain strained, impacting both product delivery as well as customers’ ability to accept and deploy new hardware.
  • Regional: North American optical spending grew 4%, its fifth consecutive quarter of growth. RoAPAC optical spending increased 14% as Indian service providers resumed spending. Optical revenue in EMEA and Japan declined -16% and -44%, respectively. North American routing sales continued their surge, up 26%.
  • Customer Markets: Worldwide combined transport spending (optical + routing) was flat across all market segments. Optical spending from Cloud and Colo operators declined -19% following seven straight quarters of growth while routing spend in this segment grew by 21%. Service Provider spending was flat for both routing and optical.

This report provides a preliminary summary of our transport equipment market share analysis for 3Q22. It is released once company results for the current quarter are complete.
